The new MGA with a long track record

Although Spring started in 2020, our history and track record goes back a lot further. We’re a group of insurance professionals who know how to build successful insurance businesses the right way.

Our founders have been here several times before. After multiple decades working for major insurance firms and understanding the key components behind sustained success, Founder/Directors Nathan Sewell and Jason Edwards , now our CEO and COO respectively, went out alone. To date, they’ve successfully built and sold two MGAs and one specialist Lloyd’s insurance broker.

In our first year, we acquired what used to be Neon Sapphire – the only professional financial services MGA in the Channel Islands. They’ve been trading since 2013, in which time head of our Guernsey office Nigel Brand and his team have a developed a strong business and reputation in the offshore market.

We’ve also set up an office in Dublin, where Managing Director Patrick Mettler already has a long history working in the Irish market and will continue to grow our European footing.

And heading up the board, Chairman Russell Kilpatrick has managed and developed MGAs since the 90s. That includes a standout period with Dual, where he held executive positions for several of their businesses. He actually founded Dual’s first ever UK business in 2003.

At every level and in each of our locations, we’re all aligned to the same underwriting philosophy. Our sustained success has been down to how well we’ve managed the relationship between covering risks put in front of us, while being responsible for the capacity under our control.

It’s that long-term thinking that’s allowed us to secure A rated capacity through some of the most reputable Lloyd’s syndicates including Aspen dating back to 2013 which have since been joined by Ascot, MS Amlin and Atrium in Guernsey, with Beazley as the cornerstone relationship in the UK. We’re also creating a working environment to appeal to the best underwriting talent out there.

Our flat structure means everyone has a voice and can play their part. And our inclusive ownership model gives underwriters and underwriting teams a space to be entrepreneurial and share in the success of the business.

We also support our people with opportunities to develop and give them flexibility with their day-to-day roles. Although the nature of our work is generally best spent in the office collaborating with colleagues and clients, we understand the importance of a healthy work/life balance. So the option for our people to work remotely is always there when they need it.
